UIPD warns community about recent phone scams
URBANA, Ill. – Campus community members should be on high alert when they receive calls from unknown numbers – police are aware of a number of recent incidents in which students were convinced to send thousands of dollars to scammers. In the recent string of calls, the scammer purports to be a representative of some official agency and claims that the recipient of the call is under investigation for a serious crime. Online reporting now available for theft, vandalism and lost property
URBANA, Ill. – Community members can now report on-campus incidents of theft and vandalism and any lost property without the need for face-to-face interaction. The reporting form is available on the University of Illinois Police Department website. The online reporting format has been in the works at UIPD for some time, but its launch was accelerated to provide a more convenient option for community members who are practicing “social distancing” during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
