U. of I. Police investigating on-campus death of infant

CHAMPAIGN — Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a newborn baby who was discovered Sunday evening. At 5:08 p.m. Sunday, University of Illinois Police were dispatched to Bousfield Hall, 1214 S. First St., Champaign, to check on a U. of I. student who was reported to have been in the bathroom for several hours. When police arrived, the student claimed she had the stomach flu and did not need further assistance. University Police later received more information from a person familiar with the situation. Police begin issuing ‘stop receipts’ to some pedestrians

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY – In response to new statewide legislation called the Police and Community Relations Improvement Act, law enforcement agencies across the state and in Champaign County, under certain circumstances, have begun issuing “stop receipts” to pedestrians who are searched or frisked by police. The stop receipts are one part of a greater effort to collect data on pedestrian stops around the state, and those receipts will include the reason for the stop and the officer’s name and badge number. Partner agency honors U. of I. Police staff

URBANA — Two University of Illinois Police officers and a telecommunicator, among others, were honored on Wednesday by the Urbana Police Department, underscoring the cooperation between Champaign County law enforcement agencies as a key to keeping the community safer.
