Senior Officials Workshop for All-Hazards Preparedness

Course Overview

This DHS/FEMA-funded workshop provides an interactive forum for senior leaders to understand their roles and responsibilities in all-hazards disaster preparedness. Participants will explore planning, operational coordination, and public information and warning through lecture, discussion, and a customized tabletop exercise. The workshop concludes with the development of an actionable plan to enhance the preparedness posture of the organization or community.

Topics Covered
  • Tabletop exercise tailored to the jurisdiction to drive discussion of policy and Emergency Operations Center activities supporting incident command and state/federal requirements.
  • Roles, responsibilities, and preparedness challenges for senior officials.
  • Domestic preparedness resources and strategies for leveraging them locally.
  • Homeland Security strategic planning, including risk and needs assessment and alignment with the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
  • Executive-level considerations for incident response and recovery, including medical/public health, situational appraisal, ICS, mutual aid, media relations, restoration processes, federal assistance, and economic recovery.

This course is designed for senior elected, appointed, and whole-community leaders, including: elected officials; city and county managers; emergency management directors/coordinators; directors of response agencies; chiefs and department heads; business and industry partners; Public Information Officers; hospital administration; airport and port facility managers; school and university administrators and security; public and private sector executives; NGOs; DoD installation commanders; stadium and sports facility managers; and resident federal agency representatives.
