CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois Police officers responded to a Campustown bar early Tuesday morning for reports of an armed subject. At approximately 12:11 a.m. Aug. 19, UIPD officers stopped at The Red Lion, 211 E. Green St., Champaign, to engage with employees when a security manager reported a safety concern that prompted an Illini-Alert emergency notification. Police collaboration leads to recovery of stolen vehicle, burglary tools
URBANA, Ill. – University of Illinois Police officers located four juveniles in possession of burglary tools and a stolen vehicle early Friday morning. At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Friday, July 18, a UIPD officer was on patrol near Orchard Downs in response to a recent string of attempted vehicle thefts. While on patrol, the officer observed a blue Hyundai Elantra traveling south on Race Street. Public comment encouraged during ILEAP accreditation
URBANA, Illinois – The University of Illinois Police Department is encouraging members of the general public to call in and leave comments while law enforcement assessors examine the department’s policies, procedures, operations, and management. The assessors will be Jeff Hamer, Chief of Police at the Macomb Police Department, and Steve Roberts, retired Deputy Chief at the Lansing Police Department. The evaluation is a routine part of the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP) accreditation process. University Police determine battery report was inaccurate
CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – A woman who initially reported that she was stabbed on Green Street on Tuesday evening later recanted that story, and police determined that there is no ongoing threat to campus. The initial report prompted an Illini-Alert emergency notification that was sent to all students, faculty and staff. University Police promptly issued a follow-up “all clear” notice when their investigation determined that there never was a threat to the safety of campus. URBANA, Illinois – The Division of Public Safety will host the Community Unity Festival on Tuesday, Aug. 27, to bring public safety agencies, service organizations and community members together.
